"That Gum U Like debut album, The Black Lodge, is largerly influenced by dreampop and shoegaze bands such as Cocteau Twins, Slowdive, The XX and My Bloody Valentine. Its also inspired by the powerful voice of Bjork and Flume’s album, called Skin. Also, this EP represents a lot of David Lynch’s world , in a sense that it sounds obscure, mystique, even unexplainable and, at the same time, very soft."

Unindo shoegaze, dreampop e um pouco de synthpop, bem como referências eletrônicas mais atuais, como o produtor Flume, o EP é inspirado em um revival dos anos 90, a série de TV Twin Peaks, do diretor David Lynch - o que também explica o nome do projeto. "A marca registrada do diretor e da série é o limite tênue entre realidade e fantasia e a exploração do lado mais obscuro do ser humano”, comentam.

Sob essa atmosfera, foi lançada no início do ano a faixa Falling Apart, que gerou uma repercussão positiva no cenário indie. Animados com o resultado, centraram forças na criação do EP The Black Lodge, cujo single Killer, lançado em novembro deste ano, alcançou a marca de 26 mil plays orgânicos no Soundcloud em apenas 18 dias, ficando em sexto lugar entre as faixas mais populares do Hype Machine, site agregador que gera um ranking das faixas mais ouvidas na blogosfera.

O novo selo brasiliense Quadrado Mágico, que propõe movimentar a cena dance e psicodélica atual, é o responsável por disseminar o trabalho da dupla: no pacote do EP, o ouvinte pode conferir ainda 4 remixes que pretendem levar a banda para as pistas descoladas do país: Renato Cohen apresenta uma versão noventista ultra nostálgica de “The Black Lodge”, enquanto que uma tríade candanga surfa por praças mais atuais - a residente do badalado projeto 5uinto, Mari Perrelli, encarna uma personalidade sensível-slow-beat; a sensação Kurup desconstrói a faixa Raika numa levada marota hipnótica, enquanto que o Meduna, projeto lado B do produtor Rami do Forro Red Light, mergulha em timbragens acid e analógicas.
